Review #21 | Jeffreys Half Defunct Japanese Server | Learn Japanese For Free

This review is for Jeffrey's Japanese server. I would recommend it for beginner and intermediate levels of learners. There are some archived number conversion charts available, and some great reviews of further linguistic and grammatical Japanese books if you want something like that, perhaps available from a library or friend because we can learn Japanese for free. Theres also a phonological essay so I'll be going through that in the next review.

Cyberia, the first Internet Cafe in London (1994, PD) Ivan007, Matt T
The older I get, the more I realize how important archiving is.

What

This is a vintage website straight from 1997-2002 which is practically defunct, but is reflective of what can be done if you want your own website and have server access. The only useful resources that are arent deadlinks are the sections on Jeffrey's columns and the sections on number configuration which are useful if you need a guide to number conversion which I recommend making a note of somewhere.

Theres also a linguistic essay on Japanese morphology because nerd stuff is fun <3 @:

Where

Available at https://www.trussel.com/f_nih.htm   .

Who

Jeffreys Server belongs to it creator Steve Trussel it seems, with contributions from Miki Allen and Satoru Murata.

These all have many, many people involved in these projects whom I would love to highlight if they wish to be.

When

Available 24/7 but only online, unless you download the materials/print-pdf them I guess.

Why

I would recommend this if you get bored or like linguistics because nerd stuff I guess, or just want to look at vintage internet and 1990s aesthetics, as well as the reviews to older more accessible learning textbooks that are still a bit scarce even today.

You may be thinking, why/how is this important? Becuase archives are actively being destroyed in places the American republics which have decided they dont need history, because thats for nerds. Nerds disagree and would say that is one of the stupidest things they could do as it erases American history, which is all that will be left one day or another, but no, the nerds dont know best becuase the Republican chads know best.

Anyway archives are important kids. Learn outside of school as well. Learning is a process of continual change and growth, not a static group of metrics you learn and enter. That would be doing something simple like learning Hiragana or Katkana charts, not studying the continuing output of materials which you learn from. I cannot do the learning for you, you need to do your own learning, and getting an idea of the resources available to you helps you to be able to utilize time, money and strategies towards goals more easily. Not to mention, no one learns in exactly the same way as another person. Nor will somones starting point be the same as someone elses. Plus, maybe learn to ask more questions in your life rather than just going 'It's just how it is'. Repeated for the peanut gallery lot.
