Review #12 | Tangorin | Learn Japanese For Free

This week's review is for the Tangorin Website. I would recommend it for all levels of learner. The website covers areas like a Dictionary, JLPT, Jouyou and Jinmeiyou levels.

What

Tangorin is a website with a search engine like function. The website could be utilised for a number of uses, but is pretty much a compendium of example sentences which search through the Tatoeba commons database. This is under the 'Dictionary' Tab.

The 'Vocabulary' Tab gives the option to go through the JLPT Jouyou and Jinmeiyou options. Options like the JLPT tab gives you a list of vocabulary for example which are useful, but I will exploring the next review on this matter so it should be noted that I dont particularly know if I can wholly recommend the sole usage of this feature as stand alone yet.

All of these examples, which include whole sentences, can be exported.

Why

I recommend Tangorin as a study guide and lookup tool useful for example sentences. As a searchable  Dictionary which draws from a wide array of the open access and open source materials it is pretty decent as far as I, random person on the internet, can tell.

Review #11 | Bunpo | Learn Japanese For Free

This week's review is for the Bunpo App. I would recommend it for higher levels of learner. It is a study tool I suppose. Only 3 lessons are free though, and for this reason I cannot recommened unless you like the style the app.

Note to reader; I have currently been changing over laptops as my old one died on me this week around Tuesday typically. I have managed to get re-setup but I am currently pretty busy due to the Laptop thing (see last post).

Bunpo is an app. The app helps you to study rudimentary to N1 Japanese using a flashcard type of format.

Why

I do not actually recommened this app, unless you like paying money for aesthetics. The app is also pretty poor in its ability to use the proper grammatical terms, so even in basic, stuff that is obviously a subject, becomes a 'topic', particles become 'topic markers', but the term 'noun' will be used. This clearly confusing and probably disjointedly makes you heavily disadvantaged when learning by yourself. Nouns in particular are highly subjective in English usage compared to other languages, so as a linguist, this is pretty disappointing as it is obvious the app develop doesnt seem to care whether or no you understand what a common noun and a possessive noun tell us about the language we are using. Which is the entire point of learning a language for most people. To understand what is being described or discussed.
