Review #22 | Say no to Bunpro kids. | Learn Japanese For Free

 Bunpro is poop.

This review is for Bunpro the website, not the app. I would recommend it for no one its poop and I got lost today for 3 hours becuase of Google Maps so nah no actual work just my full time job,  so the phonological review is next time and an actual review.

Speedrun Japanese Grammar like a BunPRO Bunpro Review (2021, EP) Weeb Jail

What

Grammar media that links you off to everything else free on the internet.

Where

Your local app stores and website domains. Terms and Credit Cards apply.

Who

Dunno, pretty much Tae Kim at this point.

When

Available if you have money.

Why

Watch the review. Also paying for links to Tae Kim is ... tomfoolery.

 Learning is a process of continual change and growth, not a static group of metrics you learn and enter. That would be doing something simple like learning Hiragana or Katkana charts, not studying the continuing output of materials which you learn from. I cannot do the learning for you, you need to do your own learning, and getting an idea of the resources available to you helps you to be able to utilize time, money and strategies towards goals more easily. Not to mention, no one learns in exactly the same way as another person. Nor will somones starting point be the same as someone elses. Plus, maybe learn to ask more questions in your life rather than just going 'It's just how it is'. Repeated for the peanut gallery lot.

Allergies

In a bid to get my allergies under control, and somehow managing to land a job in Japan whilst running on what seems to be a whole single sandwich and lugging 37 ish kg around with me, I have managed to get barely any of my Japanese sorted and the whole thing has been ... well safe to say I will be glad to sleep today.

So some allergy words because these are now things I have to watch out for and 2 birds one stones and I am learning as to why it is beneficial for these things to be digital and not physical because these are not art notes, or jotting notes, or figuring out something notes, these are finalised notes which I will return to and rant rant rant rant rant I am sick of having to lug things around and losing pieces of paper, and I have seen too many people with like 2 pieces of luggage and mostly I just hate owning physical things and moving house and blegh.

Allergies~! /*3*/

Vegan = 絶対菜食主義者 / ヴィーガン / Beiigan

First one is long boi, second one reflects how much Vegans will probably struggle in Japan, because the second one is a popular Wasei Eigo kinda mess where you can ask for Vegan stuff, but it might be Vegetarian or even pescatarian, so beware, but also, its a newish thing for a good number of people, especially the elderly so please do your own research rather than just taking my word for it.

Vegetarian = 菜食主義者 / ベジタリアン / Vejatarian

First one is literally Vegetable Diet Eating Person so take that one with a pinch of salt, but the Kanji is about right, the second one follows a borrow-it-from-that-weird-Eigo-language trend.

Gluten = 麩質 / Fushitsu

Dairy = 牛乳 / 乳製品 / Gyuunyuu sha

First one is cow's milk, second one is Dairy products literally.

Lactose = 乳糖 / Nyuutou

Literally Milk Sugar, part of the protein Casein I think which is the component of Cow Milk which those unfortunate to suffer with it have adverse reactions to.

Japan and Japanese

So I'm in the process of moving right now so instead I leave you with this general video which I have found highly interesting when I have had the time and patience to actually revise properly and study(?:L)

"Japanese is Easy Actually" (2024, Educational Purposes) TheLingOtter

I disagree on many things and fronts with this, but in general, I agree with the gist of the content so enjoy I guess \535/.

Review #21 | Jeffreys Half Defunct Japanese Server | Learn Japanese For Free

This review is for Jeffrey's Japanese server. I would recommend it for beginner and intermediate levels of learners. There are some archived number conversion charts available, and some great reviews of further linguistic and grammatical Japanese books if you want something like that, perhaps available from a library or friend because we can learn Japanese for free. Theres also a phonological essay so I'll be going through that in the next review.

Cyberia, the first Internet Cafe in London (1994, PD) Ivan007, Matt T
The older I get, the more I realize how important archiving is.

What

This is a vintage website straight from 1997-2002 which is practically defunct, but is reflective of what can be done if you want your own website and have server access. The only useful resources that are arent deadlinks are the sections on Jeffrey's columns and the sections on number configuration which are useful if you need a guide to number conversion which I recommend making a note of somewhere.

Theres also a linguistic essay on Japanese morphology because nerd stuff is fun <3 @:

Where

Available at https://www.trussel.com/f_nih.htm   .

http://rut.org/cgi-bin/j-e/jis/dict

Who

Jeffreys Server belongs to it creator Steve Trussel it seems, with contributions from Miki Allen and Satoru Murata.

These all have many, many people involved in these projects whom I would love to highlight if they wish to be.

When

Available 24/7 but only online, unless you download the materials/print-pdf them I guess.

Why

I would recommend this if you get bored or like linguistics because nerd stuff I guess, or just want to look at vintage internet and 1990s aesthetics, as well as the reviews to older more accessible learning textbooks that are still a bit scarce even today.

You may be thinking, why/how is this important? Becuase archives are actively being destroyed in places the American republics which have decided they dont need history, because thats for nerds. Nerds disagree and would say that is one of the stupidest things they could do as it erases American history, which is all that will be left one day or another, but no, the nerds dont know best becuase the Republican chads know best.

Anyway archives are important kids. Learn outside of school as well.
